Jitterbit Open Source Integration

Of the new items out in the world to check out. This is a note to examine Jitterbit Hopefully the hype will stand up to the product, and I still need to test that out.

However for healthcare with the legacy FTP data transfers, is this a better way. Jitterbit currently supports Web Servces, XML Files, HTTP/S, FTP, ODBC, Flat and Hierarchic file structures and file shares. Check out the full functional spec.

How to not build a team within an IT department

The best way to ensure that a department will not work with your team, is to set a deadline for a unit before talking it over with the unit.

There needs to be a cooperative understanding and a larger sense of meaning when you are in IT. Before setting a deadline with the customer, talk to the other needed departments and establish a timeline given the goals and understanding of all. Set a timeline that can be met and maintained, after all isn't the ability to get a project done, on time and within budget the best way to move forward with improving customer relations?

Interesting Pod Casts

From the Hal Helms newsletter, and just a place I can check back to listen, when time presents.

Blah Blah Architecture at http://www.mariocardinal.com/podcast/. Although too Microsoft-centric for my taste, in the few episodes that Mario Cardinal eschews all things Redmond and tackles such topics as inversion of control or the layering pattern, his podcasts are top-notch.

Software As She's Developed at http://softwareas.com/ajax-podcast. Michael Mahemoff sounds off (very intelligently) on Ajax, design patterns, etc.

The Polymorphic Podcast at http://polymorphicpodcast.com/. This is another .NET-centric podcast, but there are some good, general nuggets scattered in there.

Software Engineering Radio at http://se-radio.net/. There's some excellent, deep stuff being discussed on this podcast.
