Once again a great line-up of educational session from HIMSS, I was able to catch the Effects of CPOE on Nursing and Bedside Medication Scanning. Both were stellar presentations. The Effect of CPOE on Nursing highlighted several good points, my main takeaway was with CPOE the behind the scenes tweaking of an order is now transparent for Physicians and an Order Management Policy is a precursor to the implementation and training, instead of an after thought. Bedside Medication Scanning also gave great overview with several good to acknowledge points. My takeaway was the value of the 2D barcodes and readable fonts because our eyesight is not what it used to be. It would be great to have a higher quality barcode instead of the supermarket label. I wasn't able to make the keynote, mainly due to the commute being significant in Atlanta.
The CPHIMS Roundtable had a good portion of CPHIMS colleagues along with those looking to test in Atlanta. Just for those who aren't familiar with the certification, CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Health Information Management and Systems) is a professional certification which indicates a good well-rounded understanding of General, System, Management and Leadership facets of Healthcare IT. A lot of good value added discussion on the CPHIMS and development of the credential in the future given upcoming demand.
The Communities Open House was a smashing success. The best turn out I have seen in recent years. The PM Sig attracted a lot of new members wanting to understand the nuances of managing projects in Healthcare IT. We also had the most creative sign! I'm definitely seeing a refreshing trend as more talent from other industries are joining the HCIT ranks. We should focus on bringing these new faces into the fold while leveraging their experience.
Tuesday has the meet the bloggers session, so be sure to go and support other HCIT bloggers!
I'd love to hear from others on how their conference event is going, please share your comments below!
