As a part of our help out a reader section here on Anticlue, every Friday we will be helping out our followers by answering a reader's question. This week, our question is "How do you handle being told to do a scope change by your manager?" from Harry.

Our advice to Harry is two fold. First, agree to do the work and keep your word. Second, present the individual with a scope change request. Nicely request the manager's authorization for the scope change.

The outcome here is two fold. First, you are supporting your manager. Second, you are sticking to the process and requesting a sip of the project management koolaid from your manager. The change request form should include the description of the change, the justification, alternatives, and the impacts to the triple constraints. Completing the form would be just documenting the analysis work the team needs to do for the requested change.

If you have a suggestion on another way to approach this common issue, please share!

Otherwise please let us know your questions for next Friday's ARQ (answer reader questions) We look forward to hearing you ask. All questions and suggestions are welcomed!
