Himss - Final Thoughts
Congratulations to HIMSS for a great event. There were several highlights. A couple of items for follow up and follow through:
- Remind oneself not to be a technical zealot and be amazed by the technical wizardry. Look for the business problems to be solved.
- Intersystems Ensemble appears to have the most functional integration engine on the market, with the ability to do realtime dashboards, and HL7 query. Also the HealthShare product for RHIOs could help with integrated delivery networks with 2 or more clinical solutions. The downtime for Ensemble is "sold" as minuscule and the integration staff was described as 2 FTE tops.
- EScription appears to have one of the better transcription/dictation solutions. It may be good to examine the ROI for such a solution. A benefit would be possibly removing some of the transcription service as the line count for transcriptions at least double.
- 3M is becoming a health information management suite. Keep an eye out for the integration of the acquisition and partnerships into a new product eventually. Wonder if they would consider partnering with e-scription... Now that would be sweet!
- The Kronos timeclocks and fully loaded workforce management tool does resolve a business need, but the benefits and cost reductions need to be examined fully for the ROI development.
- FCG was aquired by CSC. Maybe this will bring some healthcare expertise into their technology outsourcing group....
- Apparently 7 in 10 PMOs are disbanded in healthcare after 3 years of existence due to a lack of benefits. Need to partner with marketing for a PMO campaign. Also I need to figure out how to relate, the juice is worth the squeeze.
- Check out the next version of the motion computing tablet. My bet is that the next version will include the heavy hitter improvements learned from the current version.
- The PM Sig sharepoint site content is worth the membership if we all start sharing PM best practices for Healthcare IT. Others should join!
