The 75% rule changes criteria

The rule changed, the percentage of patients to whom hospitals must provide rehab services to be classified as IRF is now 50 %. The CMS will analyze claims and assessment data to determine a more appropriate threshold in the meantime. It was previously alloted at 75%.

The qualifying medical conditions have been slightly expanded from 10 to 13. This is mainly due to a more detailed classification of polyarthritis. There are more changes and it is probably best to look at the May 7th Federal Register.
