Thinking Mindset
Yesterday, a good friend shared with me a little phrase that determines one's personal philosophy, you get to choose where to insert the words short and long.
If we take care of the ______ term, the ______ term will take care of itself.
The funny thing is that this little phrase determines your perspective to your possible political affliations.
I, however, would prefer to take care of the long term, because then the short term will take care of itself. However, in reality, I believe there is an order, first fix the short term, then fix what was broke in history, but always look to take care and improve the process for the long term, and implement those opportunities.
Profoundly beautiful.
One of my most hated coaches, Denny Green, had a saying, "Plan The Work, Work The Plan". It makes me think of the same thing.
I always like to look for opportunities, to never settle for where i am.
Either to improve the ease of managing the data, improve query performance, track down long time bugs and finally fix them.
If you don't keep the long term in your mind, it is so easy to let things slide.
Like where I work, we had this horribly written content management systems, no one could figure it out.
So about after 2 years, on my own, I started to create from scratch, which is a pain. But at least mine will be a lot more logical, commented and documented.
I refuse to repeat my predecessor's mistakes.
